Mar. 22nd, 2010 01:15 amWe now have health care "reform".
What a fucking sad day for the once-glorious country living out its last years of freedom.
Alas, we need the barbarians -- to remind the collective consciousness of the survivors that freedom is not just a word.
Bring forth Attila and get this sad charade over with.
PS. And also -- to everyone who ever uttered the words "let the rich people pay their fair share" -- fuck all of you.

Date: 2010-03-22 11:40 am (UTC)The problem I think is not rich paying for poor. The problem is that working people, not some lazy assholes who would be more than happy to have someone else pay for their way through life, cannot afford medical attention in this what you call once-glorious country even though they pay taxes like the other guy, pay their insurance premiums like the other guy, and don't want to recieve government's assistance as much as the other guy doesn't. You know better than anyone probably what medical bills look like. I got fucking charged like $500 by the hospital because I got a bad burn and had to go to the ER...and then $500 by a specialty clinic the hospital sent me too (ridiculous in itself). And guess what? Turns out the effying hospital was out of network, which means my insurance didn't cover it (and in case of emergency I will of course check if my hospital is in network). I mean this does not make sense. It's $1000 for treatment of a bad burn. Now what if God forbid you have a serious condition? It's potentially tens of thousands of dollars, which your insurance may not cover. And it doesn't matter if you worked all these years, or if you paid for your insurance premiums.
Also, what if you are like my parents? They are both engineers with master degrees. Surely no lazy bums. They immigrated to the US in their mid to late 40s. They've both worked ever since, paid their taxes, etc. They are now in mid to late 50s.. still want to work. But lets face it, their English is not that great, they're not that young..they're out of competition in any job market especially a current one. My mom has health insurance through her employer. My dad has what you might call a condition. God forbid something happens, my mom would have to pay a disproportionately huge % of her salary just in deductible out of her pocket (and she obviously pays like $80 in premiums every week). Oh and by the way she does not have a choice in her healthcare insurance provider (which as it turns out not that many doctors want to accept) unless she wants to buy insurance from outside. What is it like $600/month for people with low income? How is that freedom?
You are worried about red tape bureaucracy, mismanagement, and being stuck paying for everybody else. I agree: it sucks. It shouldn't be this way. I remember the good old days when America used to have a middle class. Whatever happened to it?
