Grande mocha frap at the SBUX downstairs -- 480 yen (no, no whipped cream, I am fat enough, thank you very much)

I can't speak for entire Japan, but Tokyo is not a tipping culture. Nobody tips. Upscale places like more expensive restaurants and hotels automatically add a 10% service charge to everything, but other than that no tipping is taking place. I left 500 yen for my housekeeping crew -- they didn't take the money (lest they be called thieves I guess). Kinda cool if you ask me.

I addition to fighting Japanese-only menus, I had to fight Japanese-only Windows XP at work. I wanted to take a few screenshots of just how fucked up that looks like but decided against it so as not be accused of disseminating some corporate crap.

Just as in Hong Kong, the building practices temporary passes. Pass is valid for N days, which works great for visitors. No such thing in the US.

Japanese language not having letter L is not a joke. They say "argorithm".

Service personnel sings their hellos, good-byes, cash tendered and change given. Literally sing all that. It's actually quite cool and I enjoyed that very much. In general, people manning any kind of counter anywhere are really at your service, without the standard American "this job would be so cool if it weren't for the fucking customers" attitude.

Older women really have a weird thing for treating dogs like babies. I have seen multiple times ladies rolling around what would normally be considered a stroller, except instead of a baby there is a small canine in the basket, dressed like a little fucked up circus clown. Confusion galore.

And finally. Again, I can't attest for the entire country, but Tokyo has by far the largest amount of the most beautiful women per square block I have ever seen. Ever. Faces, figures, perfect clothing, flawless make-up and Asian cuteness, the whole ensemble works as nature intended. [livejournal.com profile] nafania told me I would think this, and boy was she right. You know how they say that Japan lacks natural resources? Who the fuck needs oil, gas and metals with women like that all around you? :)

That's pretty much it for my four days in Tokyo. I now have to pack my suitcase for the 3rd time in 11 days, get up at 6am, get to Haneda, fly to Hong Kong, and be at the office for the 4pm meeting. And it's 30C in Hong Kong, which means I'll be sweating in business clothing like a hooker in a church.

Ain't life grand :)
