Whilst researching the Android phone universe, I suddenly thought that Droid's motto Droid Does resembles the well-established porn tradtion of naming films in a similar fashion - eg Debbie Does Dallas. I wonder which Freudian mind at Motorola came up with this one...and whom is the Droid supposed to do...oh the evil technologists...

Date: 2009-12-12 12:33 am (UTC)Anyway, from all the reviews so far from people who had it a few weeks (my Verizon store experience doesn't count) it seems to be a little raw: battery life sucks ass (seems to be a universal complaint), phone is unstable and restarts a lot, apps shutdown all the time, many UI bugs, keyboards are too sensitive, no voice guidance over bluetooth, issues with call waiting and 3-way calling, it takes 5 motions to dial something, battery cover is easily lost, no Outlook or Yahoo connectivity, camera takes ages to autofocus. One dude made me laugh cz he said the phone says "Droid" when it turns on, and his kept shutting down and restarting all night, and kept loudly saying "DROID" and waking him up :)) The recent release 2.0.1 supposedly addresses the battery life and some stability issues (without going into specifics), along with better camera focus and some UI stuff. This actually gives me hope because if they patch that quickly (another release is rumoured at the end of January), they might actually get this raw thing to where it should be stability and usability-wise.
Plus, I am waiting for the 1GHz SnapDragon processor core to come out, should be Jan? And yes, the screen quality is quite nice...
