Damn the research for this shit is exhausting. So many options, so many brands.
Visited two LBS's today. The one out in Bay Ridge on 3rd and 90th is pretty good. Owned by an old lady -- a seasoned cyclist herself, you can tell -- she's lean and mean. She's pushing the Marin ALP Mill Valley. Awesome bike. Expensive as a motherf*cker. It does have front and back carbon forks though, meaning smooth ride...

The dude at my Sheepshead Bay store was pointing out a Cannondale and Specialized double-carbon fork models...We'll see.
PS. Bay Ridge west of 3rd avenue is awesome -- it's been a while since I've been there. Beautiful houses, tree-lined streets, great air. Ridge Boulevard and 90s is fanatastic...
