It's pretty much over
Oct. 13th, 2008 11:23 amSay hello to President Obama.
Checked CNN election chart. If the states listed as leaning one way or another continue to lean that way, Obama only needs to win just one of the following: Ohio, Missouri, North Carolina, Florida or Virginia. Just one of these will do it for him. Even if you give traditionally red North Carolina and Virginia to McCain, Ohio, Missouri and Florida are a real tossup. Given tough economic times, industrial rust-belt Ohio may very well go blue and that will be it.
As for McCain, he'll need to win all of these: Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida to become president. That is virtually impossible, even, as I said before, if we give traditionally red NC, CO and VA to McCain (and toss in Nevada while we're at it), since McCain's win in all of the battleground states of Missouri, Ohio and Florida is extremely unlikely.
Well, there you have it. We lost. They won. Long live socialism.

PS. Fucking California with its 55 votes...Dems always have that nuthouse in the bag...I want proportional representation of electoral college votes!!!

Date: 2008-10-13 05:12 pm (UTC)But it's a winner-takes all situation -- that's why we have red states and blue states, so many people (like you and I) end up in situation where our vote doesn't matter cz the majority in the state 'colors' the electors.
What I want is a percent-based voting for those electors, so that both red and blue votes count within a state: say NV has 5 electoral votes but the vote within the state is split 45/55, so I want the votes of the electors to be split the same way. The you add them all up, fractions and all, and get a result. This is far more fair than "winner takes all" - you preserve population-based state v state electoral college but make everyone's vote count.
