Without going into details on Roberts -- do you think an incompetent nobody like Miers, someone with no judicial experience at all, should decide this country's constitutional issues?

I dont like extremes either (or both side), but I have no issues with moderate conservatives, which, IMHO, a Supreme Court judge should be.

the problem is, how do you define a 'moderate conservative'? There are really hot issues that are currently at a stake -- abortion, gay rights (yes, gay rights, and please spare me your comments on this one), etc.
As far as these are concerned, I worry about the votes. And votes are always biased, and "interpretation" of the constitution is also biased, no matter what they say. I agree, that ideally, Miers should not in the supreme court's judge seat. However, conservatives are pushing for a reason. They want to install somebody who has conservative agenda, it is clear. This would push the court out of balance. And in this case, I don't know what is worse, somebody with less experience but moderate or some religious fanatic. Roberts needs to be counter-balanced somehow. I personally cannot stand the guy (but this is out of this topic's scope :)
At this point I wouldn't mind some punk liberal joining Supreme Court, really :)
