You all remember Pulp Fiction, right?
Vincent: Jules, you give that fucking nimrod fifteen hundred dollars and I'll shoot him on general principle.
I have always wondered why  nimrod. Nimrod was a biblical figure, the great-grandson of Noah, a big hunter (possibly of men) and supposedly the builder of the Tower of Babel.

So why did Vincent use it meaning "idiot"?

Well, apparently it's all Bugs Bunny's fault. Ain't no kiddin' neither. American Heritage Dictionary lists the alternative meaning of nimrod as:
2. Informal A person regarded as silly, foolish, or stupid.
After Nimrod. Sense 2, probably from the phrase "poor little Nimrod," used by the cartoon character Bugs Bunny to mock the hapless hunter Elmer Fudd.
