Me lucky is

It was indeed just the power supply. After having spent two hours carefully replacing the burnt-out stinky old one with a shiny new one, I discovered that no other devices were lost in this debacle. Motherboard reset a few settings but other than that it was a smooth ride. No hardware or data loss.

Let's hope the new power supply lasts...
