Well, I am no longer a gambling virgin. This was the first time I went to a casino planning to actually spend time gambling. My choice was blackjack.

I was lucky since we managed to get a $15 table for all 5 of us, and my friends spent half the time correcting me and telling me what to do. Amazingly, dealers are very nice about this and give you a good advice on how to win. Makes sense since I'm tipping them when I win.

Huge thanks to Connie and especially Tim, who, with a patience of a Buddhist monk, didn't lose his temper with me doing all kinds wrong moves and continued to teach me.

Since I forgot to take cash in New York, I started playing with $100 I borrowed. In two and a half hours that $100 became $1100, but took me a little while to understand that the lucky streak has ran out so I ended up with a positive saldo of $800. That minus the debt brought me $700 of pure profit since I walked away from the table and didn't continue gambling. Some may say that's lame, but I felt that the unbelievably lucky streak I had (20s and blackjacks on splits and double-downs) for over two hours had ended, and it felt like continuing would be a waste. I will now have to buy Connie and Tim drinks since most of the money I won using their advice.

All in all this was a great weekend - fun, good food, good company and money to boot.

First hour I had very little idea what to do -- good thing about blackjack is that the table plays against the dealer so everyone is giving me advice on when to hit, when to stand, when to split or double down. Second hour I finally got most of it and went aggressive -- making $50 bets with double downs and all. Won six or seven of these in a row. I had a little fan crowd behind me wondering "this kid has a string of luck like we haven't seen!"

Well, you gotta somehow make some of that original cash you change to chips with the blackjack dealer, I guess :)
