Irish folk song
Oct. 19th, 2005 12:31 amThose who have seen "Gangs Of New York" may remember a sliver of a song that is played while the Irish are stepping off the boats and are drafted right away into the Union Army. I liked the lyrics (you only catch a few moments of the song in the movie):
Apparently, it's a famous Irish song called Paddy's Lamentation. Sinead O'Connor does it, as do many Irish folk singers.
Full lyrics and an MP3 as performed by Gallowglass.
But when we got to Yankee-Land
They stuck a musket in me hands
Sayin' "Paddy, you must go and fight for Lincoln"
