As asol55  so aptly put, "time to separate religious from right". rkatsyv countered that this will precipitate the loss of all further elections.

I think it's sad that we as conservatives are somehow forced to carry on the deal Reagan made with Falwell in 1979.

На самом деле наверное неважно это все. У меня сложилось такое впечатление, что общество свободных индивидуалистов формируется только в условиях фронтира и находится в неустойчивом равновесии и рано или поздно всегда и irreversibly скатывается к той или иной степени патернализма/социализма/тоталитаризма. Америка была последним таким обществом на этой планете. Теперь в следующий раз мы увидим такое общество только при колонизации Марса. А потом рано или поздно и там наступит "hope and change". И так далее.

Последние пять веков у человеческой цивилизации была такая отдушина. В нее из старого света бежали все кто "задыхался в толпах огромных". А теперь минимум несколько веков такой отдушины не будет. А может и никогда уже не будет :(

Something where the original conservative ideas of limited government, low taxes, free markets, maximum personal freedoms and privacy in one's personal beliefs rule the day...

But you're right, it may not be possible any more -- the world has gotten much smaller...
