Got a letter from the IRS asking for $146 in tax penalties for filing taxes late...

So here's the story -- the Postal Service, a government institution, has lost my original tax return, filed of course on time. They lost a certified letter, with a tracking number etc. It just went nowhere. The post master of the SHB station had nothing to say about it. No accountability. No refund either. So I called IRS in June and explained the situation, asking for advice. They said to file again and to include a letter of explanation and a copy of the certified mail recept for the lost tax return. I did that. And now I am being asked by the same IRS to pay fees for late filing or provide an explanation as to why the return was late (!).

And some people what this bunch of idiots to administer my health care? I'm passing, thankyouverymuch.
