My LaCie ElectronBlue IV monitor is dying - vertical is giving way slowly but surely, so I need to get something new.

Quesion is - CRT vs LCD. Since I do photo editing, I want to have good color fidelity and no light falloff, which points me in the direction of a CRT (still). Problem is that in this day and age of LCDs most manufacturers stopped producing midrange CRT monitors which are still better in color reproduction and fidelity than midrange LCDs. I have to find what remains of the CRT stocks out there.

However, if I want to go the LCD route, only a good LCD would do and those bite. For example, Eizo ColorEdge CG19 19" LCD monitor is really good, with 170 degree viewing anges, 10-bit LUT and all that jazz. It also goes for about $1400 on NewEgg. Ouch. Can't say I am in need of that kind of precision, I guess.

My guess I will get a graphics-series ViewSonic G90fb 19" monitor for about $230 from Dell, wait till it dies in a couple of years, and maybe by that time midrange LCD technology will catch up enough with the CRTs for me to finally switch...

Or maybe someone will donate to my Eizo ColorEdge CG19 Monitor fund? Anyone...?
