Country bluegrass in NYC
Aug. 3rd, 2007 10:22 amYesterday I went to an "Allison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas" concert (thanks Connie).
It was a very nice, fun and homey show. Anyone who said people in New York don't like country bluegrass music didn't see a sold out Beacon Theater going crazy when Jerry Douglas did his insane dobro improvs, or when Dan Tyminski did his famous "I'm a man of constant sorrow" cover from "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?". There is a story associated with that. Dan said that when he got a call to do a voiceover for George Clooney, he told his wife:
- Honey, I'm going to be doing a George Clooney voiceover.
- That's great...what's a voiceover?
- Well, we go to a theater, and there is George's face on the screen, but he sings with my voice.
- Oh, dear, that's my dream...
