Parking fine for dead Australian

The man had been dead for days before the ticket was issued
A traffic warden in Australia put a parking ticket on a car without noticing it had a dead body inside, police have said.

The warden failed to spot the body of the 71-year-old man, who appeared to have died after parking his car in a busy Melbourne shopping centre.

The body was eventually discovered on Thursday.

The man had been reported missing nine days earlier, according to Australian newspaper reports.

Paul Denham, the mayor of Maroondah - where the incident happened - apologised to the dead man's family, and said the warden was "distressed" to learn that a dead man had been inside the car.

He told reporters that the warden had probably missed the body because the car's windows were tinted, and the driver's seat was apparently reclined.
