FEMA chief Brown resigns in wake of Katrina http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050912/pl_nm/brown_dcHere's my 5 cents:
Well, this is a first -- someone has finally resigned over something. Not that I think he resigned cz he really thought, "Oh, I really fucked things up down in Louisiana", but it's a start.
For the duration of the Clinton-Bush eras which I have personally witnessed whilst in this country, I dont remember any elected official resigning over anything a single time.
In the old days, people shot themselves if they thought their honor and integrity has been tainted by an irrefutable accusation (let alone audiotaped evidence -- hello Mr Clinton). After 9/11-style intelligence fuckup the entire top brass of the FBI/CIA/NSA, along with National Security Adviser (whoever that was at the time) should have resigned. But I guess the weight of the word "tainted" has changed somewhat of late, since these days an elected official can get caught being compeletely incompetent, or embezzling and/or lying through his teeth, with little or no consequence to his political career. Hello, Mr Bush and the WMDs (sounds like a pop band, doesn't it).
The only thing that seems to really send someone's career down the crapper nowadays is being ID-ed as a homo -- hence the sad saga of the now ex NJ governor.
I guess the moral of the story is: you can fuck up
anything you want whilst in office, just dont fuck
anyone deemed inappropriate.
