Finally!

Ever since the spring thunderstorms began, I have tried to capture a lightning strike. My windows face West so since most weather fronts in NYC come in from the West I usually get a front row view of the approaching line. This season I have spent hours snapping empty frames since most storms up to today were fairly weak.

But today the skies gave birth to this monster:

As I saw the approaching squall line I set the camera up and started snapping away.

And finally my patience paid off!

Very impressive!! Did you use any photoshop to edit the image? What camera did you use?

A little bit of PSing is there, of course, but nothing major. Darken the building in front so that they dont take attention away from the strike. Punch up contrast in the sky a little bit, things like that. Basically, you have to make sure the eyes of the viewer a fixed first on the lightning itself.

Camera is the same, Nikon D2X, with a Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 DX lens at 18mm or so.
