My cat has two down phases and two paranoid ones.
Sleeping through most of the night is down phase I, followed by being fed and paranoia phase I -- running around the apartment away from imaginary enemies, hiding, pouncing on toys etc. Then daytime nap - down phase II, followed by being fed and paranoia phase II.
